A Knowledge Hub of FutureFoodS Living Labs

One of the major goals of the FutureFoodS partnership is the development of a European network of FutureFoodS Living Labs to stimulate collaboration, to share working methods and to generate new ideas within the ecosystem of food systems transition. More than 30 FutureFoodS partners are currently joining forces to develop this network as basis for a Knowledge Hub.

According to the European Network of Living Labs (ENoLL), Living Labs are defined as user-centred, open innovation ecosystems based on a systematic user co-creation approach, integrating research and innovation processes in real-life communities and settings. In the FutureFoodS partnership, FutureFoodS Living Labs will support the transition of the food processing industry to sustainable food systems with a focus on FOOD2030 priorities. FOOD2030 is the research and innovation policy of the European Commission to transform current food systems towards sustainable, healthy and inclusive food systems.

The FutureFoodS Knowledge Hub will act as a kind of space for interaction between stakeholders from policy, industry, research and society. It is a space for knowledge exchange and capacity-building to accelerate the transition of current food systems towards food systems of the future. It is a facilitator for innovation and collaboration between all stakeholders. But what are the key functionalities and services of such a Knowledge Hub? How should it be governed? To answer these questions, the FutureFoodS partners will build on the expertise of European projects like FOODPathS and CLEVERFOOD and will interact with all stakeholders. During the FOODPathS festival in Brussels (May 20-22), a FOODPathS-FutureFoodS joint session will be held to explore how to build a shared European Knowledge Hub to accelerate the sustainable transformation of food systems. The session will explore ways to align efforts and join forces in developing this Knowledge Hub in Europe. The ultimate goal of the FutureFoodS Knowledge Hub is being relevant and useful to have an added-value for its participants. The pathways for development and governance of the Knowledge Hub will be explored during the duration of the partnership.
